Monongalia County Judge Susan Tucker has sentenced Kevin Utter to the maximum sentence of 40 years in prison for the second degree murder of Christina Terry. Utter also received a three year sentence for arson. Judge Tucker ordered that the terms be served consecutively. Terry's family spoke at Utter's sentencing Monday morning and requested the maximum sentence.

Gas company workers found Terry's body on an old road near University High School while doing inspections in October 2011, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department. It was later learned that Utter met Terry for the first time at Novichenks II Bar on Cheat Road, killed her and then burned her car near the Canyon Community on Canyon School Road.

A Doddridge County grand jury indicted Utter in July on an unrelated charge of malicious wounding in connection to an incident at North Central Regional Jail.
