The Benedum Airport Authority wants to build a new access road connecting Routes 50 and 279.
It has authorized the Harrison County Commission to seek funding for the project from the Industrial Access Road Fund.
Airport director Rick Rock said the access road would mean good things for the airport.
"It opens up our developable land, it improves economic development, its going to improve opportunities to expand our tenant base and add additional jobs to the community. It will improve access and we think we have a couple, multi-years of good programs," said Rock.
The airport authority also is looking at $1 million worth of improvements to the terminal, including a bigger, taller canopy to accommodate buses.
