A Braxton County mother charged in connection with the death of her 8-year-old son is now facing unrelated charges.
Valarie Brown, 38, of Sutton was back in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. The judge reduced her bond to $50,000.
She's now charged with obtaining goods under false pretenses. Police said that Brown wrote a rent check from a closed account. She's also been issued citations for no insurance, no inspection sticker, no registration, defective equipment, and no child restraint in her vehicle.
Brown is also facing a simple possession of marijuana charge.
Brown was already charged with child neglect causing death.
Her son, Levi Burroughs, was found dead inside her home. Investigators said when they found the boy's body it was already decomposing and had been there for days.
Burroughs was diagnosed with a terminal disease called Mucopolysaccharidosis or MPS. It's often referred to as Hurler Syndrome. Troopers said Brown denied her son proper medical care.
