WVU Basketball Reacts To Off-Season Exodus At Summer League Game

Posted: Updated:

The tumultuous off-season continues for the Mountaineers. Aaric Murray's departure Monday continues a revolving door on Bob Huggins squad.

"It's unfortunate but we just have to move on," said Freshman Brandon Watkins after a Pittsburgh Summer League game. "It's a bump in the road that we have to go over, so we're just going to have to deal with it."

Aaric Murray is the fifth mountaineer to transfer out of WVU this off-season. Add in a three others who graduated and the mountaineers will miss a staggering eight players from the 2012 squad.

"Its a good opportunity, we've got more coming in, and hopefully we can fill all their spots and be better," said Freshman Nathan Adrian.

Morgantown alum Nathan Adrian is one of a handful of new faces this year. The 6'8" freshman could contribute this season but said he's learning that his games needs a bit of a tune up.

"I have to play harder, more consistently," he said. "You can't take plays off in college like I could in high school. But that's about it."

After Monday night's summer league match-up between both WVU teams, the Mountaineers' mantra was 'next man up.' Veterans like Terry Henderson and Eron Harris understand their new role.

"I've been at WVU for a year so I know how things go and its my job to teach the people who don't know," said Harris. "Whether they're older than me, transferring in, or younger than me. That's my job, be a leader and be a person they can look to."

"I planned on being a leader as soon as the season ended," added Henderson. "I knew I had a good year and had high expectations coming in for this season."

Despite many new faces the expectations remain high for the Moutnaineers. Undeterred by the departures, Henderson said he likes what he sees of his new teammates.

"I see they like to compete more than last year's team," Henderson said. "We don't even have everyone here yet, but I see that nobody likes to lose, and people get mad and stuff like that. I like that, I like to see that."
