The Huntington Area Food Bank has distributed more than 2.5 million pounds of food in the last six months to residents in 17 counties.

That amounts to 40,000 more meals compared to this time last year, officials recently announced.

And it's not done yet.

As part of the Summer Concert Series at Pullman Square, Pack the Backpack will be held July 25.

Officials ask people to bring food — including pop-top ravioli, nutritious soups, instant oatmeal, fruit and vegetable cups and single serving cereal — and school supplies to children.

The food bank distributes more than 1,000 backpacks of food to children every week during the school year, the news release states.
