The West Virginia Division of Highways will build a new interchange between Exit 152, Westover, and Exit 155, Star City.
It held a public meeting on Wednesday to provide information and a progress report, and to hear the public's comments.
It had maps that show where it will build the interchange, and how it might look.
The DOH said the new interchange will be very beneficial to drivers frustrated by congestion in the area.
"I think a lot of people recognize that the area of the interstate has a lot of congestion in it. People need other alternatives as a way to travel. It provides access to areas that are developing, the traffic tends to even itself out and that's the best way to handle most of that developing area," said Greg Bailey, with the Division of Highways.
Bailey said the new interchange should give an additional way to get to the University Towne Center, and possibly the new West Virginia University baseball Stadium.
He also said construction is planned to start in the Summer of 2014.
