Coach's has been an establishment on Colin's Ferry Road for some time now, but it was always a sports bar. Well, the owner re-vamped it to become one of the first locally owned seafood restaurants in Morgantown.
Changing the restaurant from a sports bar to a crab shack meant re-decorating. However, the owner did keep some of the sports-type atmosphere, including TV's and even video games.
Scott Cain received free crabs for life when he attended the grand opening. The atmosphere is only half of why he's loving the new place.
"They've got a great decor, their menu's pretty nice, the food was good. Everything we had that day," Cain said. "I had a friend with me, his food was good. I can't say enough good things about it."
The restaurant had around 300 people show up for the grand opening.
Bron Kayal is the owner. He said that regulars from the sports bar and new customers are coming in.
"A wide variety of people are coming in. We are seeing people that have never come here before. We have had our regulars come back since we have opened back up, people that have always come here," Kayal said. "We are seeing people traveling from Fairmont, Bridgeport, Point Marion, Preston County coming down to eat crabs. Just because this is the only place that offers it."
The menu has four types of fresh crab, but there are other elements included.
"Now, I may not be a huge fan of crab, but I love fish. I got their fried fish and it was really quite amazing," Cain said. "It wasn't what I expected."
Coach's Crab Shack is located at 3768 Colin's Ferry Road. It opens at 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.
