Fairmont Continues Sesquicentennial Celebrations With Live Music, Contests
On Thursday night, bands played in front of the Marion County courthouse in celebration of West Virginia's 150th Birthday.
Organizers made sure there were plenty of family activities like the Civil War re enactors who told the story of West Virginia's birth.
A beard-growing contest offered prized for the fullest, longest, best Lincoln, and most original beards.
Even the vendors had fun.
"West Virginia Day is important for me as a West Virginian. I produce and sell pottery from local clay that I dig here in West Virginia, so West Virginia Day has always been a special to me," said Michael Ray of Fairmont.
Fairmont's sesquicentennial celebration wrapped up at 9 p.m. Thursday night with more music on the courthouse steps.
