The very first Father's Day service was held at a Fairmont church more than 100 years ago.
Grace Golden Clayton was the driving force behind the service.
After many children were left fatherless after the Monongah Mine Disaster, Clayton wanted to honor all fathers, living or dead.
Due to other events, Fairmont did not get national recognition for originating the holiday.
A sign stands outside of the United Methodist Church, where the first service was held in 1908.
