Terra Café in Star City served up this week's Breakfast Bite, and several bonus dishes.
The café sits along the rail-trail, so many customers stop in after morning runs or walks and pick up a homemade breakfast bar or smoothie that's made from scratch.
"It gives you a sense of being at home, more so, when you someone's actually back there right now making it instead of just cutting it out of the freezer," said general manager Ryan Hartman.
For a heartier breakfast, we head into the kitchen to visit Ryan's sister and Terra Café's chef, Lauren Hartman. She prepares two entrees for us to sample.
The first is a steak and eggs dish with peppers and onions that would certainly fill you up. The second is a healthier option. A chicken sausage patty that's ground and made in house is cooked and topped with a poached egg, red peppers, avocado, and balsamic sauce. It all sits between a homemade English muffin that is toasted with cheese.
"We use top of the line ingredients," Laura Hartman said. "We try to sustain local businesses and farms as much as possible when we can in season, and we take pride in everything being made from scratch."
As if that wasn't enough, Lauren dishes up a full plate of fresh fruit and serves us a homemade croissant that is delicious and roughly the size of my head.
Plus, I snagged some extra Jolly Green Giant smoothie (apple, spinach, avocado, agave, and mint). Watch the video to the right to see how that's made.
I haven't even touched on Terra Café's Sunday brunch. Ryan said the menu is completely different from the regular breakfast fare, but it is all still homemade and fresh. He also recommends reservations because it's so popular.
