The Robert C. Byrd boys basketball team is hard at work in the gym, following a productive season that saw the Eagles reach the Class AA Semifinals, only to fall to eventual State Champion Bluefield.
Byrd loses three key players from a year ago, Izaiah Hill, Nick Dyer and Devin Langford.
But several key contributors will return, including Devonti Birch, among others. The Eagles will rely upon other contributors such as Cameron Carvelli and Luke Dyer to take on an even bigger role in 2013-14.
Head Coach Bill Bennett said the loss in the state semifinal was tough to swallow, but also was a game his team learned a lot from. Bennett also said the summer is a time where players can achieve their goals for the upcoming year.
"We want them to understand to achieve the goals that they're setting for themselves, that it just doesn't happen automatically. Any goal worth setting you have to work hard to get there. So that's what we're trying to emphasize. Along the way, we want them to enjoy their summer too," Bennett said.
