Authorities are investigating a fire that left a Webster County woman dead this weekend.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office said a 68-year-old woman was inside of her home when it burned to the ground. The home was located eight miles outside of Webster Springs.
The home was so secluded that the fire was never reported, according to the State Fire Marshal. When authorities arrived on scene, the fire was out and the home was burned to the ground. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, said Reed Cook, Deputy State Fire Marshal. Investigators believe that the fire happened sometime Saturday afternoon.
The name of the woman has not been released, pending positive identification from the State Medical Examiner's office, said Cook.
The Webster County Sheriff's Department, State Police, and State Fire Marshal are investigating.
