Corporate office employees often have to work together to get their jobs done. One of the jobs local corporate offices are working this weekend involves sporting events.
United Way's 15th Annual Corporate Cup not only raises funds for the organization but it gives the employees who compete in the event a lesson in teamwork.
"They prepare their own competitive t-shirts and they have a lot of fun with it," said Brett White, the Director of the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. "Some of their co-workers come out to support them, they set up lawn chairs and it's kind of a fun event for those corporations. Every summer we really look forward to bringing them together and helping them build some team morale."
The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties will kicked off the Corporate Cup event Friday at White Park.
11 local companies will compete in 10 different sporting events.
"It's a wide spectrum across the community," said White. "We have two divisions, the first is companies with under 100 employees and the second division is over 100 employees so we have companies in both divisions.
They hold each of the sporting events at different locations in the community. Suburban Lanes has been a sponsor of the event every year since the beginning.
"This event has been 15 years here in Morgantown," White said. "I think it's created a tradition with the United Way and around these companies. And it will help raise around $10,000 for our local campaign that will kick off this fall."
The Corporate Cup begins Friday evening and will continue throughout the weekend ending on Sunday, June 9 with an awards ceremony.
