The Mannington chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America has dedicated a monument to the local troops who fought and died in Vietnam.
The monument includes bricks with each of the service men and women's name engraved.
The group said that in addition to serving as a reminder that wars have real, lasting consequences the monument also will teach a lesson to future generations.
"We need to take a lesson from history so that we don't repeat it," said Vernon Hayes, the Treasurer of Chapter 1055 Vietnam Veterans of America. "The school system is welcome to send their classes around and I'm sure we can get someone here to explain what happened, when it happened, and how many people it affected."
The city of Mannington has worked on the monument for the past three years.
