Jessica Rine couldn't stay out of West Virginia long.
Originally from Wheeling, Rine graduated from West Liberty University in 2004 with a degree in communications.
She was a sports intern at WTAJ in Altoona, Pa., then worked as a production intern, then videographer, with the Pittsburgh Pirates AA affiliate, the Altoona Curve. But then after a short stint in human resources for Seven D Truss outside Altoona, Rine decided to move back to Wheeling.
Rine started at WTRF-TV in Wheeling in 2007 as a master control operator, then she became a sales assistant, where she made good use of her time learning about the company.
Now promotions manager, Rine organizes sponsorship of more than 50 nonprofit events in the Ohio Valley.
"We are able to use some of our inventory to promote the nonprofits' fundraisers," she said. "The people that run all of the nonprofits I work with are tremendous, selfless people. We've helped them raise thousands of dollars they may not have otherwise raised. That's rewarding to me professionally and personally."
She also promotes the lineup of syndicated and prime television shows across WTRF CBS, WTRF Fox Ohio Valley and WTRF ABC Ohio Valley.
Asked about a proud achievement, Rine spoke of being homecoming queen in college, an experience she described laughingly as "grueling."
"I wasn't in a sorority. I was nominated by the television department — so all of the sorority girls ran and I was the independent," she said. "Instead of having a sorority doing everything for me, it was me and a few of my friends."
Rine serves on the marketing committees for United Way and Habitat for Humanity and on the auxiliary board for Wheeling Health Right. She also participates in the EZ Networking Group of business professionals in the Ohio Valley.
She lives in Moundsville with her husband, Shawn, and their daughters, Isabella, 5, and Miley, 1. Her parents live nearby in Wheeling.
