Janis Nary is on the road most of the time and coordinates marketing for several independent divisions, and she loves it.
Nary grew up in Wood County and earned a degree in communications from West Virginia University at Parkersburg in 1998 with a major in PR and a minor in political science.
After working in internal communications and information technology at Columbia Gas Transmission, she took a position as marketing director for a company she thought she might retire from: Augusta Engineering and Design in South Charleston.
Augusta grew from 30 employees to 130 through the early 2000s. Nary is proud of her work there in business development. When the company generated a list of key clients to court, some as far away as Houston and New York, her efforts resulted in work with every one of them.
Other challenges unfortunately put Augusta out of business.
Nary did a short stint as marketing director at MATRIC, then with Terrell Ellis and Assoc., where she enjoyed helping nonprofits raise money.
But she missed marketing and, in 2010, went to work as marketing director for HSC.
Nary travels back and forth frequently between Hurricane and Beckley and will attend nearly all of the 29 trade shows the company will be in in 2013.
Looking ahead, she expects to do more business development.
Nary is a member of the Southern West Virginia Preparedness Partnership, the Putnam Chamber of Commerce, the chamber's Network of Women committee, and Generation Putnam and the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the International Society of Automation's Charleston, W.Va. section. And she serves on the Charleston Ronald McDonald House McGala Committee.
Nary lives in Mason County with her fiancé, Robert "Frankie" Robins, who is operations manager for Liberty Hydro, and their six dogs.
