The word "Bistro" means a small restaurant serving moderately simple meals in a modest setting, and that's what you'll find at the Market Bistro in Buckhannon.
"We try to use as much local produce as possible and my husband Mike is very into the Farmer's Market and so that's where the name market came from, and we knew we wanted to do some kind of restaurant that was fast," said co-owner Annie Alborano.
You'll learn after a few minutes sitting down at the Market Bistro that you're going to get something different. Owners Mike and Annie Alborano pride themselves in making everything from scratch.
"I love making homemade bread. I think that's what attracts a lot of people to us. I think we're probably one of the few restaurants around that are making their own bread, and people like, wow that sandwich and it was fantastic and it was just ham and cheese, but it was on homemade bread," said Mike Alborano.
"We always try to have a vegetarian item, not just in the menu itself but on our board itself which always has specials, our dinner specials we try to have," said Annie Alborano.
The Market Bistro also gives back to the community as a mentor in the Pro Start Program at Buckhannon Upshur High School. Students learn how the restaurant business works, and it has an intern from Fairmont State and Pierpont Community and Technical College's Culinary Program working there.
"They get to find out what it's like to work in a restaurant, I don't sugar coat anything with them. Tell them this is how it is, sometimes it's going to be like this, sometimes it's not going to be fun, but it's what you make of it," said Mike Alborano.
Regulars said the bistro puts out some good menu items.
"Everything is very fresh, it's never exactly the same way twice it's very dependable, but it's always very good," said Cyril Johnston of Buckhannon.
Annie Alberano said she wants her customers to enjoy the food they're having.
"Be able to experience something pleasing in their mouth or their pallet. I just want them to feel like they can relax and have a good dining experience," Annie Alborano said.
Once a month, local musicians come in to enjoy music while they dine.
