This is a typical day at Morgantown Learning Academy, where about 90 to 100 students make up the entire student population.
This private school has about 10 to 12 kids per classroom, which allows teachers to give very individualized attention.
"Everyone is moving forward and progressing at their own rate of speed, with support from all of the teachers here," said kindergarten teacher Pat Morgan.
Their "book buddy" program puts kids together based on their reading level. And they have an "ISP" or individual student plan, which meets with parents three times a year.
"We sit down and say ‘this is where your child is where would you like your child to be?'," Morgan said.
It's geared to incorporate parents as much as possible. "Parents always welcomed into our classrooms anytime, which is not always true everywhere else," Morgan said.
But, it's the students at the heart of the school. Brynnah Sacklefordwhitten has been coming here since she was 3 years old.
"I like that it's a fun school and that sometimes we get three recesses a day!" she said.
A kids dream, right? Actually the school stresses outdoor activity and has gym class five times a week!
MLA also offers summer programs that range from "The Great Outdoors" to the "Presidential Puzzler."
"This is such a wonderful and nurturing place," said parent Natalie Sal, "The teachers are amazing. There is such a rich educational environment here, the diversity is really something I want my children to be exposed to."
You can sign up now for the summer classes at MLA, and they go a week at a time, so you can choose based on your vacation schedule. For a list of those classes and to learn more about the school, just head to http://www.learningacademy.org/index.php.
