The High Street Streetscape Project continues in Morgantown as August arrives. And plans are being made to accommodate the beginning of a new school year for both Monongalia County Schools and West Virginia University.
Light pole bases, and all road and landscaping curbs have been installed on the left side of High Street between Kirk & Foundry Streets. The northbound lane of High Street, which ends at Kirk Street, will continue to be closed as crews place sidewalks. This should take place within the next two weeks.
The Contractor plans to close the West Side of Kirk Street, between the Mon Arts Center and future Monongalia County Justice Center during the week of August 12-16 for installation of crosswalk.
The Morgantown Streetscape Improvement Project has been taking place for several years and the High Street portion will finally wrap up this summer.
Phase V will begin Monday, bringing a fresh surface to Morgantown's most popular downtown street.
High Street will have curbs and sidewalks replaced from Kirk Street to Foundry Street.
Pressed crosswalks, street parking and "bump-outs" that feature trees, greenery and landscaping will also see an upgrade.
The next phase will include an update to Walnut Street and other perpendicular streets beginning in the summer of 2014.
