Sometimes students on the WVU campus want to bring a souvenir home with them after a night of partying.
Occasionally that souvenir means stealing street signs.
The Morgantown Sign Amnesty Program gave people a chance to bring signs back without being fined.
They collected 16 signs, most of which came from the Sunnyside area.
"We like for people to turn in their signs of course but no one's going to turn the sign in if you get a $500 fine handed right back to you. This was our chance to kind of tell the students go ahead bring back your signs we're not going to fine you," said Susan Sullivan, Morgantown Public Communications Manager.
No students turned any signs in but they did leave them in their houses for landlords to return to the city.
