Clarksburg City Council Approves Funding to Help Local Seniors

Posted: Updated:

The Clarksburg City Council had a short, but very productive meeting Thursday evening.

Members approved a new liquor license for a Mexican restaurant, which is moving from Bridgeport to Emily Drive. El Rey Mexican Restaurant will open in the near future.

On May 21, council will dedicate the new aquatic center at the park. It has more areas for people to recline and two concession stands instead of one.

Clarksburg City Council followed Bridgeport's lead and agreed to give the Harrison County Senior Citizens Center $2,500 for a survey. Membership at the center has declined by almost half.

"We want to know what the interests of the senior population is," said Mayor Patsy Trecost. "We want to make sure that we're providing the services and activities that are necessary for them to participate and for them to spend time with their friends. We want to find out why it's declining."

Clarksburg City Council also approved adding new lighting to Jackson Square for summer activities and for the second Annual New Year's Eve festivities. Council members expect next year's events to be bigger and better than the last.
