As West Virginia businesses come close to the one-year anniversary of the derecho storm that damaged property and left people without electricity for weeks, the Small Business Administration is offering help.

A global climate expert from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, will provide the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season forecast during a free webinar from 2-3 p.m. May 28. Agility Recovery will provide disaster preparation tips during the webinar as well.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season begins June 1, according to the SBA, and last year's season ended with Hurricane Sandy damaging much of the Eastern Seaboard in late October. The SBA has approved about $370 million in disaster loans to more than 3,500 businesses damaged by Sandy, which is just a fraction of the billions of dollars in damages.

"This is a great opportunity for small business owners and entrepreneurs to be more prepared for the upcoming hurricane season, and to know what plans need to be in place to protect their business and employees," SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho said in a news release.

SBA has partnered with Agility for disaster preparedness strategies in the past, and previous webinars can be viewed at preparemybusiness.org.
