The Elkins City Council has voted to move $60,000 from the city's water fund to help pay debt owed on the city landfill.
The city's next payments are due on Monday.
The landfill had been collecting money due from other sources until recently when those payments were completed.
"The landfill, which has been without income ever since it closed, has naturally drained its cash reserves, and no longer would have the money to service various debts that it has," said Sutton Stokes, Elkins city clerk.
The city treasurer said the added money should cover the landfill's payments for two more months.
