Lewis County is honoring the people keeping it safe.
The Lewis County Commission declared this week Law Enforcement Week.
Commissioners said they've always been pleased with the work of the county sheriff's department, but are especially happy this year with the progress it's made in the fight against drugs.
Commission President Pat Boyle said the deputies and other law enforcement officers deserve some good recognition.
"So many times, everybody picks out the wrong things, and everybody likes to be critical. So it's nice, once in a while, to pat somebody on the back and say, 'you've done a great job, and we appreciate what you are doing," Boyle said.
Boyle said they're also glad to work with the Weston Police and State Police detachments to help keep the county safe.
