Literacy Volunteers of Harrison County has honored a retired Dominion Energy employee for his volunteer service.
The acknowledgement came on Monday after Dominion honored John Hartung as one of its volunteers of the year.
Hartung said he read about Literacy Volunteers in a newspaper and has been a volunteer for almost ten years.
He said he has helped more than 30 people with literacy and that volunteering runs in his family.
"I started in 2004. My parents were volunteers, and then they retired. They were always going down to a soup kitchen one day a week and just getting involved in the community," said Hartung.
Dominion gave Harrison County Literacy Volunteers $1,000 to help with general expenses.
