Webster County High School was the scene of a car crash on Thursday, but fortunately, it was only intended as a lesson.
The staged exercise was designed to show students the real-life consequences of not wearing a seat belt or making destructive decisions behind the wheel.
Organizers said they chose to collaborate on the event, in part to recruit students into careers as first responders.
"We want them to see first the effects of drinking and driving or drugs, and second to watch us to see if something we might do would spark an interest because, like I told them when we start, EMS is getting less and less participation," said Dale Hall of Webster County Office of Emergency Services.
Fire departments from Cowen and Webster Springs, the Webster County Sheriff's Department, state police, Webster Memorial EMS, and Webster County Office of Emergency Services all participated in the event. Air Evac also made an appearance.
