Marshall University board of governors backs president after faculty vote
HUNTINGTON, WV (AP) -
Marshall University's Board of Governors has expressed its support of President Stephen J. Kopp after faculty took a symbolic vote of no confidence in him.
Of 420 faculty members who took part over the past week, 290 voted no confidence in Kopp, 107 supported him and 23 abstained.
A statement issued Wednesday by Board of Governors Chairman Dr. Joseph Touma says Kopp has exceeded the board's performance expectations in several areas, and the board believes Kopp's the right person to lead the university.
Kopp says he's pleased to have the board's support and respects the faculty's vote. But he says the university continues to face tremendous budget challenges ahead.
Last month Kopp ordered the removal of funds from department accounts to have revenues and expenses analyzed. The money was returned.
