National Crime Victims' Rights Week runs from April 21 to April 27 this year.
To kick off the week the Bridgeport Police Department and the Victim Advocate Department held a luminary service on Sunday.
The theme is, "New Challenges, New Solutions."
Different speakers talked about the importance of the week, different tables were there with information, and it ended with a candle light vigil and music.
Tammy Renzelli, the victim advocate for the Bridgeport Police Department, said it's important to remember and support victims.
"We forget that even though the tragedy is over, the trauma continues, and the trauma process takes years to get over. We need to show our support, and always encourage our victims, and stand up and help our victims get through our legal process," Renzelli said.
