The Champs Central Lucky Star Xplosion will be the first ever cheer team from Clarksburg to compete at Worlds.
The team is flying high and practicing hard for the competition in Orlando, Florida.
Cheerleaders on Xplosion have come in from all over the area to practice for competition.
The routine is two and a half minutes long but requires hours of practice.
"A lot of time, a lot of practices, long practices. International Open it's hard to get everybody together so we practice on weekends for five to six hours at a time," said cheerleader Stacy Karickhoff. "It takes a lot of determination and dedication to get where we're going."
The team qualified to head to Worlds in Dallas early in May.
"We went to NCA Dallas, which is the world's largest competition, you compete two days," said Trenton Shaffer, cheerleader. "The first day is 25% of the score and the second is 75%, and basically the bids go to the highest score teams, which we were one of."
"They've not been to any other competition since," said Debbie Hartman, part owner of Champs Central and Coach of Xplosion. "We've been fundraising because going to Dallas they had plane fares, and entry fees, and expenses of food, and housing and they'll have all that again as they head to Orlando."
The team will perform the routine up to three times if they continue to qualify. They would have to beat out teams that come in from all over the world to win.
"It would be nice to place in the top 10 but just going out there and hitting all of our stunts and having a clean, safe routine would be nice," Karickhoff said.
The team will be leaving Thursday and Friday later this week. They will compete in the International Open Coed Level 5 Division.
