The Webster County Board of Education has decided to close two of its five schools.
The board voted 3 to 2 to close Diana Elementary and Glade Middle School at its meeting Tuesday night.
Some parents are worried about the 7th and 8th graders being moved to the high school and longer commutes for young students.
Superintendent Martha Dean said the board plans to address all of the issues at hand but that something had to be done due to a steady decline in enrollment.
"You know, it's been a long process, and I know that it's traumatic for any community to lose their school, and that would be Diana Elementary closing, is a loss of that school for that community," Dean said.
The board made its decision after a week of public hearings.
The changes will go into effect in the fall of 2014.
