The Lewis County Commission honored its county dispatchers this week.
The commission watched a brief presentation about the job dispatchers do daily as part of Telecommunicators Week.
Dispatchers at the Lewis-Gilmer E-911 Center don't just field emergency calls.
They also coordinate emergency responders across the counties.
Chief Deputy Randall Hyre said they also watch out for the safety of those responders.
"Even on traffic stops, if you're out of the car for more than a certain amount of time, they're yelling at you, wanting to know if you're OK," Chief Hyre said.
Telecommunicators Week is celebrated nationally through April 20.
