The Pierpont Community and Technical College invited the public to its campus Monday to view and taste a final class project.
Pierpont Culinary Academy students competed in a "Cake Competition" for Pierpont Pride and some extra credit.
The students have worked on a three-tiered cake for several weeks.
The requirements included two flavors, two fillings, and different techniques for icing.
"I'm very pleased. I think it was definitely a good learning experience. They haven't had experience of a cake of this size. We made smaller cakes in class but never anything like this. For their very first time, I think they were very creative in their design," said Allison McCue, of the Pierpont Culinary Academy.
A black and yellow tier cake won the People's Choice award.
A purple cake was voted Best Tasting.
