The state legislature has passed a bill that was inspired by the death of a local teenager.
Michael Cunningham was 15 years old when he died from electric shock drowning at Stonewall Jackson Lake.
His family pushed for the "Michael Cunningham Act" to require ground fault circuit interrupters at marinas.
The bill now heads to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin and Cunningham's family said it hopes he'll sign it in Harrison County.
It could go into effect as soon as August 2014.
