The Star City Volunteer Fire department's annual Brewfest brings thousands of people out each year. It's a great way for people to enjoy their weekend while supporting their local fire department.
"We chose to be a vendor at the Star City Brewfest because we're located in Star City," said Patty Colbank, the owner of Patty's Art Spot. "And we like to help out the community that helps us."
Brewfest brings people in for a $20 entry fee. Guests receive a glass to sample up to 70 different beers and enjoy local vendors and entertainment.
Colbank said it was an easy decision to donate the $100 per day to be a vendor.
"Yeah! I mean if we catch on fire we definitely want to be their friends," said Colbank. "But it mostly is about supporting the community we are working in."
The event is about drinking alcoholic beverages. As a rescue service, the Fire Department provides a safe way to make it home.
"As emergency service workers we do deal with people on the wrong end of drinking and driving so we do want to try and prevent that," said John Huber, the Chief of the Star City VFD. "Hence, the buses we provide and designated drivers get in for $15, do not get a glass, do not get to drink but they get all the free entertainment."
The event runs Friday and Saturday from Noon to 2 a.m.
Colbank said it's just another business day but they get to help out their neighbor.
"We set up in a different environment a little rowdier environment, a little noisier environment," said Colbank. "We still do the same professional tattoos and none of us our drinking!"
The Star City Volunteer Fire Department said that they're your neighbors and your friends so why not help them raise their goal of $100,000.
