A bill that could set up a tax increment financing district to support a new baseball park in Monongalia County took a huge step forward Wednesday.
The bill passed both the House Judiciary and Finance committees.
Monongalia County Commission expressed its gratitude during its weekly meeting.
Commission said after a few Harrison County officials spoke out against the bill, it was concerned it may not pass.
"Some concerns by Harrison County, and Bridgeport officials, and they may have been justified and rightly so, they're worried about their community, we're worried about ours, and we all ought to join together and worry about our state," said Bill Bartolo, of the Monongalia County Commission.
The bill must pass the house floor before going to the governor. If the bill does not pass the county's own property TIF district, it would be voided, and the project may fall through.
