If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

House Bill 2471 was one of the earliest to pass either body of the Legislature during the 2013 regular session, but it's been dragged out to the final days.

The bill would prohibit the restriction of any otherwise legal firearm or ammunition during a declared state of emergency.

The bill, backed by the National Rifle Association, unanimously passed the full House of Delegates Feb. 22. It was the first bill to pass the full House. At that time, Delegate Larry Faircloth, R-Berkeley, said it was an important bill because it would help West Virginia "take a stand."

"This bill sets the stage for other bills that will come out no the House floor," Faircloth said after that vote."

While most other bills related to firearms have not had much success this session, this bill passed the full Senate unanimously April 9.

But because the Senate made slight changes to the bill, it will return to the House of Delegates for members to decide if they concur with the changes.
