The Lewis County Sheriff's Department has arrested two people after deputies found drugs in their vehicle.

Sheriff Adam Gissy said deputies arrested Stuart Mitchell and Shannon Epp with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance after a traffic stop on Route 33 Tuesday afternoon.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found and seized more than $3,000 worth of heroin, or 112 heroin stamps, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia.

Gissy said he believes the individuals were going to Upshur County.

"Heroin is a drug that's plaguing the community and by sending a message to the folks in our community that we're aggressively working it. And to the individuals who are delivering these narcotics were out here daily working on it and we're not going to stop until this problem becomes resolved," said Gissy.

Gissy said Tuesday's arrest could lead to more arrests. Mitchell and Epp are in the Central Regional Jail with bail set at $50,000 each.
