Parents and tots are warming up for class at the West Virginia Gymnastics Training Center.
Every Friday at 9:30 a.m., this class opens the floor to the little one, ages 1 and a half to 3, to work on their techniques.
"I love it," said parent, Lauren Surbaugh. "It gets her energy out, it gives her some things to do, to play, run around with other children, interact."
Like the other tots, Lauren's little daughter, Emma is learning strength, coordination and balance.
"Strength is really important for children of any age, and it will help protect your child in the long run because if they have the ability to fall correctly or pick themselves up correctly, hold themselves, then they're less likely to hurt themselves on the playground, when they're at school and at home," said instructor Krysta Bailey.
And the neat thing about this gymnastics class is that moms and dads work with their kids around the various stations, the whole time.
"Our parent tot class is different than any other, because in this one we specifically have our parents working with the children, hands on, and it gives them a chance to work on their skills that maybe we wouldn't be able to do," Bailey said.
The kids love it, and it's a way for parents to help them through; while letting go, just a little.
There are actually three parent tot classes, two on Fridays and one on Wednesdays and it goes year round, so you can sign up anytime. For more information go to: http://www.wvgtc.com/preschool_class_programs.html.
