Restaurant Road Trip: Bonnie Belles Pastries

Posted: Updated:

What's sweet, always hits the spot, and perfect for any occasion?

Well, pretty much anything Bonnie Belles Pastries in Nutter Fort has to offer.

Bonnie Belles is a family owned bakery that caters to everyone and anyone.

"Bonnie Belles started in 1947 and Richard and Bonnie Belle Hawkins started the bakery," said Linda Fowler, owner. "Actually the same formulas they used then are the same formulas we use now. Not much has changed there at all and I think that's why we are so successful."

Successful is right.

Bonnie Belles Pastries is not only known throughout the state, but former President Bill Clinton even paid a visit once.

"He actually saw our cakes and he was reading about it in an article that was on the front page that day coming from the airport to RCB," Fowler said. "He saw that and said 'I want to meet those people' and that's how we actually met him."

Birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more.

If you want it, Bonnie Belles has it.

"This business is primarily a cake business," Fowler said. "We offer a lot of cookies too as you can well see. We are primarily a cake business. We do weddings. Our cupcake business is so huge we had to hire someone just to do cupcakes alone."

As you can imagine, a lot goes into making those goodies.

One of the biggest responsibilities is decorating.

"They have to be iced and then dried enough to draw on," said Emily Grant, decorator. "Then you have multiple colors in bags to put on."

"These cakes are like your children," Fowler said. "They are all special in their own way. You design them, you know, they are all very special to you."

So why choose Bonnie Belles for your event?

"I would say we are absolutely the best. We are."

Bonnie Bells is located at 1520 Buckhannon Pike in Nutter Fort.
