Bridgeport City Council met Monday and approved a budget revision concerning the Bridgeport Police Department.
The department has one canine unit, a dog named Dax, but Dax will retire at the end of next month.
The department is looking for a dog to replace him.
Council approved a $3,500 budget revision to get the new dog.
Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker explained what the money will go towards.
"The initial cost will not only pay for the canine, but training for the canine, training for the handler, and ongoing maintenance and training in the future. So it covers quite a bit," said Walker.
The department is looking to a get a Labrador for the next dog.
