A Bridgeport woman has been sentenced for embezzling more than $20,000 from the Johnson Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association.
Judge Thomas Bedell sentenced Melissa Wilfong, 36, to five years of probation for one count of embezzlement.
If Wilfong violates her probation, she would spend between one to 10 years in prison.
Wilfong acted as the treasurer of the PTA between January 2011 and 2012, according to State Police.
Judge Bedell ordered Wilfong to pay $27,334.92 in restitution to the Johnson Elementary PTA and $14,312 to the Harrison County Board of Education for the audit it performed as part of its investigation into the embezzlement.
Wilfong was able to repay $31,000 of that restitution back Thursday, March 7 and she must pay the remaining balance back within two years.
Bedell also ordered Wilfong to perform 250 hours of community service and she has to write a letter of apology to the Johnson Elementary PTA and the Harrison County Board of Education within 30 days.
