The Bridgeport Juniors hosted a penny auction Sunday at the Benedum Civic Center in Bridgeport.
For $2.50 the public could buy a cup, and bring their own pennies or buy them from the Juniors.
Local businesses chipped in by donating prizes for the event.
For just pennies the public could bid on those prizes by filling their cups with the coins.
The Juniors then pulled a number that matched the cups and if there were pennies in the cup they won that prize.
One of the members of the organization said the penny auction is great for both the community and the Juniors.
"You get to have a great time on a cold and snowy day when there's not much else to do and it's great for us because it's just a wonderful fundraiser. It's one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. It allows us to make some money so we can in turn give it back to the community and give it to organizations that really deserve it," said Krista Arnold, Bridgeport Juniors member.
Last year the event raised nearly $1,000.
The next event for the Juniors is a mother-daughter tea party on May 5th. There will be door prizes, raffles for American Girl dolls, and different craft stations. For more information on the Juniors and upcoming events you can visit its Facebook page.
