The Barbour County Board of Education voted 3-2 to terminate the contracts of middle school sports coaches at its meeting on Monday night.
Concerned parents and coaches watched as board members voted in favor of the superintendent's recommendation.
Superintendent Joe Super said the board will do everything it can while working on next year's budget to find some extra money.
"When it comes time to present the budget through our workshops, we'll be squeezing every dime out of there that we can to put it on the plus side of the column, where we can perhaps reinstate some programs, but at the same time, I can't make any guarantees about that," said Super.
The board also terminated teacher positions and the summer agriculture program. The termination of contracts is effective at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
The board will begin its public budget work sessions in a couple of weeks.
