Morgantown Library Hosts 'Read to Rover'

Posted: Updated:

Reading in front of other people is hard for some especially when you're just starting out.

The Read to Rover program let's young children who are just learning to read get some practice on dogs.

The Morgantown Library hosted the event on Saturday. The children read to Mountaineer Therapy dogs and their owners.

"It boosts self confidence, they're calm, it has a calming affect on a child. Dogs are non-judgmental, they don't care if you get a word wrong. I'm just here if the child needs help, stumbling over a word, if they look to me I'll be glad to help them. Jeb lays his paws on them and lays his head on them." said Rebecca Galeota, owner of a Mountaineer Therapy Dog.

Each reading session lasted 15 minutes and children were able to bring their own book or choose one from the library.
