On Thursday, Buckhannon City Council approved an ordinance that bans the use and distribution of bath salts. The ordinance describes the use, distribution, advertising, and other things associated with bath salts with a fine of up to $500.
Council members also talked about an ordinance that would prohibit the use of tobacco in parks and recreational areas.
"They're primarily looking at quality of life," said councilman Rich Clemens. "We had a number of visitors last week and a couple of weeks ago that have raised the issues, and it has been raised before, that secondhand smoke and just smoking in general is just not a healthful activity."
The bath salts ordinance will go into effect on April 7. The smoking ban ordinance is just a draft at this point.
