Public Art Coming to Uptown Clarksburg

Posted: Updated:

Alderson-Broaddus College has teamed up with the West Virginia Community Development Hub to bring art to uptown Clarksburg.

Art majors from Alderson-Broaddus want to put some public art on display in Clarksburg.

One plan calls for glass mosaics that would go on the walls of buildings or even in the sidewalk.

Another plan is for an outdoor film festival.

"We thought we should make it different from other film festivals or more interesting, and draw a crowd to it. We thought, 'We have this Jackson Square space and we have other interesting spaces around, what if we did it outside?' We're excited about the possibility of filling the Jackson Square parking lot with people watching interesting independent films from all over the world hopefully," said Grant Johnson associate professor of visual art at Alderson-Broaddus.

Johnson said he hopes to start installing the glass mosaics this summer.
