Bridgeport City Council met Monday to discuss improvements being made to both the Recreation Complex and the Meadowbrook Mall.
Council voted to approve a funding request for improvements at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
The vote was 4-to-3 in favor of the funding that will make some needed changes at the complex.
The money will pay for new restroom facilities, grate covers for the soccer fields, and an irrigation system for the multi-purpose field.
Bridgeport Mayor Jim Christie said the money that the city puts into the complex eventually comes back to the city.
"Last year, we had a baseball tournament that brought 24 teams from outside the area. It was 32 teams overall but 24 from outside the area. That's 360 people staying in our hotels for two nights, eating in our restaurants, and shopping in our stores. They spent $125,000 in the city in two days," said Christie.
The irrigation system will cost $111,000.
The Meadowbrook Mall will also be seeing some improvements.
The council voted unanimously to refund 50 percent of the mall's B&O construction taxes if it completes the improvements all at once.
The mall will soon be getting new floors, new skylights, more lighting in the parking lot, and new entry ways.
Construction is expected to start within 30 days.
