Construction on Eastwood Elementary School in Monongalia County is almost complete.
Monongalia County Schools' clerk of the works Ed McCabe said it is scheduled to open in March.
The building will hold more than 400 students currently attending Easton and Woodburn Elementary Schools.
McCabe said the school is an innovative project.
"It's the first of its kind in the area. None of our schools are like this. The heating system is geothermal, we don't have any of those, the lighting system, the lights automatically dim by the amount of daylight that comes into the room. It's just got a lot of special features," McCabe said.
The school is expected to be "LEED certified", which is an international certification based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
