Restaurant Road Trip: Henry G's

Posted: Updated:

If you're a fan of eating outdoors at restaurants, but not in the winter--Henry G's in Elkins might be worth trying out.

"A group of us got together and we built another building and made it a square and put a roof over it," said Martha Metheny, owner of Henry G's.

For fellow businesses in the Seneca Mall it's a dream come true.

"It's wonderful. It's so convenient, so easy to get to. I have a lot of customers that come into my store for fittings for weddings and stuff and I'm able to send them here for expresses and cappuccinos," said Dolores Magoc, a business owner in Seneca Mall.

If you can imagine it in your coffee, they can make it.

Chocolate chip cookie dough, peanut butter, and tiramisu are great ice cream flavors. But as it turns out, they make great cups of coffee too.

"The peanut butter is great with chocolate and Pam will mix things and I don't know all of her secret formulas but she will end up with things that when you taste it 'it reminds me of things that taste like candy.' The peanut, the chocolate, the caramel," Metheny said.

Henry G's opened up about three and a half years ago. But it's becoming popular not just for coffee, but for breakfast and lunch too.

"It just kind of stands out from other restaurants. Kind of like a restaurant and a coffee shop. Kind of different. I like something different once in a while. And the food is really good," said Rocky McCourt, a regular customer at Henry G's.

If you thought the lattes and cappuccinos were innovative, wait until you try out the rest of the menu.

The Senator is one of the most popular sandwiches at Henry G's.

"Well it's got ham on it, cheese on it. A toasted bun and potato salad. It's kind of like my favorite meal. It's good," McCourt said.

"I've had the Senator, it's very good," Magoc said.

Another favorite is something you might not expect to see at a cafe-style restaurant.

"I think it's really good. I like chicken quesadillas and it's a good one," said Rebecca Gower, a customer at Henry G's.

"The quesadillas are spectacular here. They are made with all fresh ingredients right here. Nothing is packaged that comes in," Magoc said.

Henry G's is open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday and is located at 110 3rd St Elkins, WV.
