As temperatures fell into the single digits this week, more customers have been going to the Lowe's on Emily Drive in Clarksburg to stock up on winter essentials.
Sales specialist Geoff Maul said salt and ice were the biggest sellers thus far. He expected to see an increase in demand for certain items depending on the weather.
"If it just stays cold, you'll see a lot more gas heating go out because it keeps up with the cold weather better. If it stays moderate, we'll see a lot more electric heat go out because you don't need to pick up as much heat off of it. With no snow, shovels, that kind of stuff is a no-go. With any amount of real snow, you'll start to see stuff go off the shelves as long as we get to about three inches," Maul said.
Lowe's has about half their stock of heaters left, but is fully stocked with shovels and salt. The store is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
